Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is hydrostatic testing?

Hydrostatic testing is performed on a home or building’s sanitary sewer system to determine if there are water leaks present in the plumbing system. In order to test for a leak, an inflatable test ball is first inserted into the building or home's mainline sewer clean out and is then inflated in order to block or plug the main sewer line. The sewer system is then filled with water up to the slab level, where the water level is observed for up to 15 minutes. If the system does not fill to slab level, or if the water level begins to drop, water leaks are present in the sanitary sewer system.

  • How can I detect a water leak?

There are various ways to detect a water leak. Some of the most common signs that you have a water leak include:

    • Your water bill has increased
    • Your water meter is continuously ticking
    • You have been finding mold and mildew
    • You’ve noticed foundation cracks
    • There are wet spots on your floor, ceiling, or walls
  • How long does it take to fix a slab leak?

Typically, we estimate that a slab leak issue can be resolved within two days. However, some things that can affect the timeline include the size of the leak, the severity of the leak, and what type of equipment must be used. In order to get an accurate timeline for your unique situation, talk with one of our staff members once they’ve identified the leak. They will be able to provide you with an estimate.

  • What is the difference between hydrostatic testing and static isolation testing?

A hydrostatic test is required when there is a leak under your home or commercial property. Then, if it has been identified that there is a leak, a static isolation test will be performed to isolate where exactly the leaks are located.

  • How often should I get my drains cleaned?

It is best practice to get your drains cleaned at least once a year. This can help to minimize the chances of clogs and water backups. In addition, some people suggest getting certain areas cleaned more frequently, like sewer drains.
